Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust

I love my food processor.  Have I told you that lately?  I remember when I was crushing Graham Crackers in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.  A lot of people online would say, just crush them with the rolling pin.  Somehow, it never came easy to me.  I always had that big ol’ chunks of crackers, and I couldn’t get fine crumbs from it.  Then, I don’t know if I was supposed to pound the crackers, or roll the pin on top of the crackers?  I even tried using a blender and my mortar and pestle.  Probably it was easier to buy a cookie shell from the grocery store than went through all of these troubles.

But thanks to my previous company, I was able to get a good-size food processor, and I have been using it lately.  So I was happy to try my food processor to crush these graham crackers when I need to have a cookie shell.  It was a buzz, I should say.  Shall we begin?

Graham crackers, butter, sugar, and cocoa powder  were the ingredients needed, since I was making a chocolate cookie shell.


First, I broke off the graham crackers into half their size (2 crackers attached to each other) just to get them to fit into the work bowl.


Then I closed the lid, pushed that “On” button and let it run for 10 seconds to 20 seconds.  And look!!!  Fine crumbs and a few chunks here and there.  I let these go since I was going to process it some more…


I added the sugar into the bowl…


Sifted the cocoa powder…   I probably didn’t need to do this, but usually cocoa powder has a few clumps…


Then pushed the “Pulse” button for a few times, and I got chocolate Graham crackers crumbs!  🙂  And probably it would be easier if you could find Chocolate Graham Crackers, but if you can’t, cocoa powder does the trick!  Oh, and that few times of pulsing took care of those small chunks of graham crackers.


Then I poured the melted butter into the bowl…


Pulsed it a few times until I got this wet crumbs consistency.


Poured it into a pie pan…


Pressed the crumbs with my fingers, baked it for several minutes  and I got a Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust!  🙂  Easy peasy!!

Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust

Amount  Measure Ingredient — Preparation Method

1 1/4  Cups        Graham Cracker Crumbs, Fine

1/4  Cup           Sugar

1/4  Cup           Cocoa Powder, Unsweetened

1/3  Cup           Butter, Melted

Stir together the crumbs, sugar, cocoa powder and the butter until the mixture is combined well.

Press the mixture onto the bottom of a buttered 10-inch springform pan.  Bake at 180° C (350° F) for 5-7 minutes.

Cool, covered, while making the filling.
