Mozzarella Sticks, a la Tiffany…

One other thing that I got to do in Indonesia last month was to take pictures of Tiffany making Mozarella sticks.  We were at Lailai, a super supermarket in Malang.  I called it super supermarket because it is a haven for most of the people who had been abroad.  It contains a lot of the food products available abroad, i.e. the mozzarella sticks, seaweed-flavored Pringles, as well as Crisco shortening! 🙂

I had mentioned to my sister-in-law, Linna, a recipe I read from the PW’s blogsite about mozzarella sticks.  So, when we were at Lailai, she got some mozzarella cheese and panko. She did not use all of the ingredients, since she did not want to complicate the recipe for Tiffany.  So, this would be Tiffany’s cheese project.

Here you go, what you need (the condensed version) is flour, egg, panko bread crumbs, and the cheese.  So we got the stuff ready for Tiffany to make. We beat the egg, put the flour and panko bread crumbs into separate plates.

First she rolled the cheese into the flour.

Then she dipped it into the beaten eggs.

Coating the cheese very well…

Then rolled into into the panko bread crumbs.

She did this very dilligently. She covered every surface with bread crumbs.

And when she finished, she piled them aside.

Then the coated cheese went into the freezer for about 20 minutes. This is so the cheese would not melt immediately when you deep fry them.

After that, Mbak Mus fried the cheese for Tiffany.

And….. a plate of mozarella sticks!

Tiffany said, “mmmm.. yummy!”

Theo agreed with Tiffany, for a change. 😉
